Milena Dimitrova Popova

I’m a lecturer of English at the University of Ruse, Bulgaria and a participant in Danube Networkers projects since 2011. I have lived and worked in the USA, where I have learned a lot about active ageing and quality life after retirement. I am now permanently interested in social, cultural, educational issues related to adults 55+.
I am a member of Soroptimist International and stand behind all its causes, dedicated to women’s personal growth.
My hobbies are exploring the mountains and communicating with people of all ages and nationalities.
My University has a leading role nationally and internationally, especially in the field of international relations (implementation of over 250 multi-lateral and bi-lateral international agreements, with partners from about 40 countries from Europe, Asia and America under 20 international programmes for cooperation), entrepreneurship (close work with the business) and diversity of academic fields (48 Bachelor degree ,80 Master degree and 43 PhD programmes).
My city is the biggest on the River Danube (147 000 inhabitants) in Bulgaria. It is twinned with Saint-Ouen and Seine-Saint denis, France; Bratislava, Slovakia; Giurgui, Romania; Trogir, Croatia; Ujbuda, Budapest, Hungary; Volgograd, Russia; Peristeri, Greece; Huainan, Anhui, China; BjielJina, Bosna I Herzegovina. The mayor has deposited a letter of intent for twinning with Ulm, Germany.
